Since the start of the new year, I've been on a new morning routine and I thought I would share. Most of you don't know, but I changed careers in early January and the new schedule rejuvenated me to get into a new morning routine. Here's the breakdown...
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my alarm goes off at 5am and I get my butt to the gym by 5:45am for spin class. I'm trying to make it to the gym 3-4 days a week, first thing in the morning. It's pretty brutal waking up that early {insert emoji with xx's for eyes} but I do love getting it out of the way for the day!
Once I get home, I heat up some water {electric kettles are where it's at} and jump in the shower. Once out, I get in my robe {for those of you who are on the hunt for a new robe, Barefoot Dreams makes the best ones!} and make a smoothie. Ryan just convinced me to get a Magic Bullet blender and I confess, it's super convenient.
For my smoothie, I usually throw in a handful of spinach, fruit {this time I used frozen mango}, 1 banana, 6 oz water, 1TB almond butter, 1 TB ground flax seed and a couple teaspoons of lemon juice. I also take my hot water and add some lemon. Last, I take a dose of magnesium and probiotics to kickstart the day.
Once I have my warm lemon water and smoothie, I read my favorite blogs. This is probably my favorite part of the day...if only I had more time to relish it before the chaos starts!
Right about this time, Ethan will wake up for the day. He usually gets yogurt for breakfast and watches Wild Kratts {his favorite show right now}.
During that time, I'll throw some makeup on and get dressed for the day. Meanwhile, the chaos of the morning usually starts to kick into high gear as we scramble to get the toddler dressed and the baby changed and fed. This is usually about the time Ethan has his first meltdown of the day as he frets over what toy to bring to school for share day or whether he can watch another episode of Wild Kratts!
Rifle Paper Co Phone Case + Contigo Travel Mug {keeps my coffee SUPER warm all morning long}
This is all going on while making coffee {or lattes in our case...thank God for Nespresso!}, warming up our cars, and trying to get out the door!
I usually take Ethan to pre-school most mornings which is even easier now that I work right down the street from him. I love when he blows me kisses from the window--though that's going more and more by the wayside...he's getting so big now!
What do your mornings look like? I love to hear how other people start their day! :)

Good for you for getting up that early and hitting the gym! I bet it's really nice to have that done and over with once you're finished.
ReplyDeletePS I have that gray top in your first picture--it was one of my favorite comfy tops during the winter--Old Navy for the win! :)
Wow you fit a lot into your morning! Do you find the hot lemon water is helping? I've heard so many people recommend it but I'm not really a fan of the taste, so curious if it's amazing and worth it.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you..there is nothing better then getting my workout done first thing! My alarm goes off at 435!! I shower at the gym and head up to handle the chaos head on before making it to work by 720! I love Tuesday and Thursday when my husband has morning duty! Keep up the motivation!!!!!

I cannot GET out of bed in the morning. How long did it take you to adjust to the early time? I'm currently pregnant with my second boy, and I am promising that i will make myself more of a priority after he is born. Before my first son was born, I used to hit the gym 3-5 times a week (along with spinning 3 nights after work) but after he arrived, I didn't want to waste his precious awake time working out at the gym, and I haven't been back since. I keep telling myself to just wake up early and hit the gym first thing in the morning before he's awake and my husband is home to deal with him before work, but it's So. So. So. hard for me to get out of bed!! Plus, I don't go to bed early enough at night. What time do you go to sleep? Your post inspired me to really set this goal and work towards it (after the pregnancy!)
ReplyDeleteI can absolutely relate! I am such a night owl and hate waking up early but with the new job, I was having to get up earlier than before and it seemed like I should just commit to getting up an hour earlier so I could work out too. I know if I don't get it done in the morning, it's not going to happen that day! I "usually" try to get to sleep by 10pm, but I'm not always sucessful.
DeleteBut I would give yourself some grace...being pregnant with a little one running around is no easy task! Enjoy and good luck! :)
Uh, that is one impressive morning, friend! I literally roll out of bed at the last second and sometimes forget to brush my teeth! I'm in awe of you! xo
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about working out in the morning, it's so nice to get it out of the way first thing! I admire you getting up that early to get it done though! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI am super impressed with you waking up so early to go to the gym. I am going to be working out of WC for two months and my plan is to walk to and from work every morning (it's that close!). Oddly I am looking forward to it - perhaps because it requires passing Anthropologie every single day!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you got a new job! Congrats! Last I heard you got a promotion at your other job, but that is super exciting! I got a new job about 9 months ago and it's right down the street from Mason which is PERFECT. It must be nice to be so close to Ethan now!
ReplyDeleteI love posts like this!
ReplyDeleteI usually set the alarm to get up early and exercise, but I just roll over. You've inspired me to do a better job though! :)
I wish I had motivation like that!! No wonder you are in amazing shape! I can probably get on board with the morning smoothie, I have this problem with eating carbs. haha
ReplyDeleteI'm always trying to make my mornings more intentional and be up earlier. Love your morning routine x
