New Hipster Hotel in Tahoe

Tahoe is home to gorgeous mountains and one of the most stunning lakes in the world.  I feel so fortunate to live in a beautiful resort town that people travel from all over the globe to visit.

I frequently get asked by readers on what to do and where to eat and stay when they visit South Lake Tahoe...if you've ever planning a visit, let me know!  I hope to start putting a guide together here on the blog, but in the meantime, we'll start with a new hotel that recently opened and that's pretty much a bloggers paradise.

The owner, Justin, has done a genius job in reinventing a once dilapidated hotel and turning it into something quite special.  The property is equal parts modern, industrial and warm.  There are lots of  unique little touches that make this hipster spot cool and yet still family friendly.

The hotel lobby also serves as their lounge & bar and boasts some gorgeous and moody details {I did mention this is a bloggers paradise, right?}.  Between the dark walls, cool signage, industrial fixtures, and fun textures, it's a feast for your eyes!  They have not missed one detail and I love that you can cozy up with a glass of wine after ending a day out on the mountains.

In room, they have some artisanal treats {like Compartes Chocolate and CC Made Caramel Popcorn} as well as your standard fare--which makes reaching for their mini-bar that much more tempting.  Some additional special touches include, rubber mat flooring for when you come off the slopes or the beach, heated toilet seats, Apple TV, Turkish area rugs and Malin + Goetz bath products.

And perhaps, one of the most exciting amenities that the hotel offers is Stumptown Coffee.  This is a BIG deal for our small town and is available for the public, which again, is HUGE!  I am thrilled!

I can't wait for the summer, when they open their deck and pool...it's going to be one happening spot.

Be sure to check out the Coachman Hotel website for more photos and details!

Planning a trip to Tahoe soon?  Let me know and I'll give you my insider tips!  :)

Our Easter 2016

We had a low-key Easter weekend complete with Sunday brunch, Easter egg hunting and good friends.  We even had a one year old birthday party the day before, which made for a fun-filled weekend!

 True life...I have a toddler!

I hope you had a wonderful Easter too!

Friday Finds

Oops!  Technically it's Saturday, but I wanted to share some of my recent finds with all of you!

I love everything by Loeffler Randall and these cute pom sandals are no exception!

I am pretty obsessed with this duvet comforter with its subtle texture.  I think it might be time for a bedroom refresh!  I'm also loving this throw pillow too!

This bathing suit coverup is super fun for the summer!  Plus, it's 25% off this weekend with code SHOPMORE.

And as long as you're getting a cute coverup, may as well get a bathing suit to go with it!  It's a steal too!

Isn't this a cute dress for summer?  I love the back too!

My love for the loose peplum top continues with this version...love the color too!

I think I found Ethan's doppelganger...I swear he could be his twin!

I hope you have a wonderful Easter tomorrow!  We plan to dye eggs today and get their baskets ready for when they wake up in the morning!

If you're looking for last minute Easter basket ideas...check out my previous posts here, here and here.

The Magic of Children

I once read that children are closer to Heaven because of their youth.  They believe in things, that we as adults, have long forgotten about or our minds have told us don't exist.  They view the world as their oyster and have little to no fear of death.  They also believe in mermaids, Santa and the real ability to fly, {amongst other things} and I think that I've always dismissed that as simply not getting it yet.

But this past weekend I saw this magic quality in my own son, Ethan.  We traveled down to southern California for a memorial service of a close family friend that passed away far before his time.  It was a somber event and yet...all Ethan wanted to do was play.  Of course, my natural inclination was that he just didn't get it--he didn't understand why we were all gathering to mourn and remember this beautiful life.  But maybe Ethan didn't see it as sad, maybe he saw it as a happy event--one where our friend was now in Heaven, also playing.

His exuberance was infectious and was a great reminder as to what life is all about.  Damian, my best friend's brother-in-law, is a wonderfully talented photographer and captured some beautiful photos of Ethan over the weekend.  Seeing the joy in his little face makes me smile...and I'm pretty sure he brought some smiles to the rest of the family this weekend.

Hope you enjoy...photos courtesy of Damian Blacklock Photography in Portland, OR.

There were so many sweet ones to choose from...it's hard to pick my favorite!  Thank you again to Damian for the awesome shots!

PS...for those interested, his shirt is from Old Navy.

Salt in the Air, Sand in my Hair

There's something about the ocean that is so healing to me.  I don't think I've truly stopped to take it in before but this trip was all about reflection and reconnection.

Ethan was my little travel buddy and did so well one-on-one as we traveled down to Newport Beach to be with my childhood friend and her family during a tragic time in their lives.  I really enjoyed the chance to be with my childhood friends and spend time quality time together.  I also loved showing Ethan some of my favorite spots that reminded me of growing up on the beach...the Balboa Ferry, the Wedge at the beach, the Balboa Island toy shop, and of course...yummy donuts!

There were a lot of beautiful memories during the weekend--planting shamrocks under Grant's tree, hearing about King from three very special people, watching Ethan cross the ferry and get chased by waves, coffee talk, Grit Cycle {the BEST!}, and celebrating a next generation of babies.

And if you're ever in Newport Beach you should definitely check out Haute Cakes, Cafe Gratitude and Sidecar Donuts

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
