As some of you may recall, we're evolving our living room...not only for practical reasons {hello babyhood!} but also because some elements are just plain ugly.
Case in point...
This monstrosity of a media center.
Scary right? I mean, there is just nothing appealing about it! Not to mention, it's completely unsafe for our climbing maniac of a toddler.
We're fortunate enough to be inheriting a new tv from our inlaws, which is finally forcing allowing us to find a pretty replacement. We plan to move the electronics to an adjacent room, which allows us to have more of a dresser...or credenza for a media console.
I've always been drawn to mid century pieces and now I'm dreaming of finding the perfect one...

There's just something so perfectly balanced about these pieces...they're classic yet retro and masculine yet fashion forward. I love them! I actually had my heart set on this version from West Elm, but alas, it's ONE inch too wide. Le sigh...
If you know of a furniture store worth checking out {that ships!} let me know in the comments below!

Something about the midcentury mod look fits so well with Tahoe! Can't wait to see what you pick!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous - I can just see you having the best time making over some vintage piece and it looking incredible! So fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the market for the same type of thing. I was surprised at how lovely the Ikea Stockholm cabinet is. In fact, I love that whole series. All new stuff. Probably one of their highest priced collections. but still so cheap. Can't wait to see what you find. You might even find a great local vintage piece on craigslist and fix it up! There are some amazing DIY and fix it tutorials since mid century modern is everywhere right now.
ReplyDeleteOoo I will check out that line! Thanks!!
DeleteGreat solution to keeping little hands off your electronics! We have a similarly ugly set up in our family room -- complete with a make shift "gate" that just worsens the look ....ugh! I like the second to last one a lot! Looking forward to seeing what you chose.
ReplyDeleteLove the look of the credenza! I would try ebay- a lot of furniture sellers on ebay ship all over the US. I have a friend who buys almost all of her furniture on ebay because she can get unique pieces.
ReplyDeleteOh I will definitely check it out...thanks for the tip!
DeleteI always see them at good will in CA!

Love all the inspiration pics! We're working on making our family room pretty too...it's so hard to work around ugly electronics.
ReplyDeleteI love the mid-century look too. So crisp and clean.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great look this is going to be!! Seriously, one inch?! Don't you just hate that? Good luck with your search.
ReplyDeleteTry craigslist. My local craigslist has some amazing mid-century pieces just like these for the $300 range.
ReplyDeletei feel like you could probably DIY something fairly easy. or look for buffets, they tend to be a few inches higher but not as wide. i personally like the dumont buffet from west elm.
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased a midcentury entertainment center at an antique store and I am IN LOVE with it. lol. I got it for a steal--bargained and got it cheaper and plus it is the real deal! I also looked and looked on Craigslist and found many there too. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteWe purchased a Mid-Century dress this summer at a garage sale in town for $15! The Seller didn't even know what he was selling. We weren't even in the market. Funny how things work out. I would try craigslist.
ReplyDeleteOhh I am thinking you could score something awesome at a local thrift shop? I often see those midcentury pieces on Craigslist!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those inspiration photos! Gorgeous! I've been looking for one too for our guest room, so if you find a great one online, let me know.
ReplyDeleteLove these looks! You're going to have so much fun finding the perfect pieces for your living room! I'm dying to get a different entertainment center because ours is glass, 3 levels and has sharp corners. We've been lucky so far with no accidents and Mia has learned to stay away from it. But she could totally test it out when I'm not looking.
ReplyDeleteOh I so love that first one!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I triple love the idea of a mid center TV console. We just completely renovated our beach house and I have been stumped at what you put under the TV. You may have solved it for me! I've been searching through Craigslist but I am digging the West Elm console a lot more than anything I see online.
ReplyDeletelove the last one! gorgeous photos, i would try shopping at a flea market- you might find something great and hopefully it will be cheaper than west elm. xo jillian
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend you check out your local goodwill. You never know what you might find and they are dirt cheap! I think I got mine for about$25!!
ReplyDeleteI just thought of you when looking at One King's Lane today under Jessica Alba's favorite finds. They have this mid-century dresser:
