The Ottoman: Which Color Would You Choose?

So I got the fabric swatches in from West Elm and now I'm more confused than ever.  I could honestly see all four colors fitting into our living room.  I snapped a couple quick shots of my living room and was hoping to get your opinion.

Which color would you choose?

We currently have a dark wood coffee table that matches a lot of the other furniture in the room.  See the side table behind the couch and the woven baskets to the right.

The couch we currently have is a beige color in mico suede.  Super easy to clean and has worn well {for the most part...don't mind the slouchy pillows}.

The silver sage actually matches the accent pillows perfectly....but is that a dumb move to match to something like an accent pillow?  What if I change my mind down the road on these pillows?

I also think the bone would be waaaay too hard to keep clean between bare feet and grimy toddler hands.

Obviously brown would work well but is that too safe of a choice?  Will it look super blah in there?  Should I be taking more of a risk?  And how do we feel about velvet during the summer?

Thoughts and opinions welcome!

Clearly you can see the predicament I'm in!  I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

  2. the dark expresso I meant .. :)

  3. The sage would be so pretty. The dark also work but like you said, it may be a safe choice. Pluse one that could darken the room. Any one you pick would look great.

  4. i would go with the espresso color. Think about how many times you'll be putting your feet on that thing & how dirty it will get with a toddler!! we have gray couches from west elm in the performance velvet and it feels fairly similar to our other couches that are micro suede. pretty easy to keep clean--just spot clean when needed. AND... I change my pillows out every other season, or whenever I get sick of them, so stick with something you can like and use long term. have fun and sounds like a great purchase!

  5. i love the SAGE,but worry you may not always have that in the colors of your livingroom, espresso would be safe.

  6. I would do the herringbone espresso and put more patterned and colorful pillows on the couch, so it's not so beige and ivory in there. And possibly a fun rug layered on top of the carpet and under the ottoman for more interest and contrast. Sorry, that's a lot of suggestions...I just love to decorate and visualize things in my head!

  7. I LOVE the sage so that's my pick. My second choice is the herringbone...it would look good with other accent colors if you change your mind in a year and what to redecorate. I think the dark espresso, although pretty, would show too much dog and cat hair!

  8. I think the espresso or sage would be perfect! You are definitely right about the bone ... not easy to keep it that color for long!

  9. First off, I love your blog:) We have the same conundrum as our daughter is almost a year old and has bonked her head a time or two. We've struggled with the design aspect of wanting to vary the elements; upholstery, wood, etc. without everything being the same. Best I can come up with is anything round...wood, natural woven, painted. Do they have other fabric options? I would just worry that since your couch is a similar fabric that it would all blend together. I love that ottoman though:)

  10. I like the sage! It'd add a pop of color!

  11. Silver Sage. Adds a fun element to the room! :) Love that ottoman by the way. I'm dying because we ordered our West Elm couch like 6 weeks ago and we're just waiting for its arrival! Eeeek!

  12. I love the Herringbone! I like that it has a pattern.. this will definitely help hide stains from a toddler and I think it adds a fun little touch! I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices, can't wait to see what you decide:)

  13. Espresso or silver sage. I like the contrast of the dark espresso with your light sofa, and bonus, it will hide a lot of dirt and wear. I also like the idea of adding a bit of color because there is a lot of neutral going on in the room, so my other choice would be silver sage. While I like the herringbone, I think the color is very similar to your sofa and might look a little washed out. Can't wait to see which one you pick!

  14. Herringbone espresso! I like that it's a neutral color but will add pattern. The silver sage is gorgeous too if you want to add color. I'm terrible at decisions so I feel your pain! :)

  15. I would do the herringbone espresso. The color is nice - and the slight pattern will make it easier to hide any grime and dirt.

  16. I like the espresso and sage. What a hard decision to make though! I always second guess myself, which is such a no-no. Go with your instincts natasha!

  17. Sage! Even if you change the pillows I think it'll look so elegant and you can easily find other pillows to match!

  18. Herringbone or sage. The herringbone will hide spills and stains without darkening the room the way the performance velvet in espresso might. However, the sage is a nice departure from all the other brown and wood tones in the room. But you could easily add pops of color through accent pillows, wall color, and decorations if you think the sage is too different and decide to go with one of the more neutral shades. I think the bit of pattern in the herringbone is nice to add contrast in the room.

  19. Hold the phone! I originally voted the blue color - but that was because I didn't realize the espresso color was HERRINGBONE! You know where my heart lies! <3

  20. i can see why you're confused. this is hard! but i kind of love the sage or the espresso. i'm a sucker for dark neutrals.

  21. I really like the herringbone. Velvet also attracts ALOT of lint/pet hair. Definitely the herringbone.

  23. I really like the espresso option. We have an espresso colored ottoman and have had zero trouble keeping it clean. My second favorite would be the sage. Can't wait to see what you pick!

  24. I like the herringbone but think the espresso would be more in keeping with replacing a dark wood cocktail table. we had the same fabric on couches very similar to yours and I would still have it in my LR but someone needed it and my generous hsb gave it to them. we have an all chair LR now.

  25. Oh, such a tough choice! I think I'd choose the espresso or herringbone. We made the same change when A was almost walking, and picked a beige linen (which surprisingly has held up well... watch we'll ruin it tomorrow now that I said that!) but we have a dark couch. I think the contrast helps keep the space interesting. Can't wait to see what you choose!

  26. I LOVE the silver sage. I think it will give you a pop of color and its neutral enough that it should still go with the look should you choose to change out your pillows!

    LOVE IT!!

  27. Herringbone ! My first thought was the bone to brighten up the room but i think herringbone will pick up colors from everywhere in the room. the rug the couch the table etc ! and is less boring then espresso :)

  28. I think I like the sage best, then the herringbone in expresso. I think the other espresso is a little too dark, but whatever you choose will be great :) Can't wait to see it!!
