A couple weeks ago, Colleen asked me to share my diaper bag essentials. Ethan's at an age now {over 8 months} where the diaper bag becomes more and more important! Between feeding, changing, and keeping him entertained...if we miss something on a given day, we'll be sure to regret it! So here's a breakdown of the essentials for our diaper bag.
First things first, my diaper bag is not a "real" diaper bag, but a gym bag from lululemon! I was drawn to this particular bag because it's not overly feminine {read: my husband doesn't mind carrying it} and it's multifunctional. Surprisingly, it has a lot of the same compartments as a traditional diaper bag...like bottle holders on each side, tons of compartments for organizing and it's weather/liquid resistant.
The only thing our diaper bag lacks, is the built in diaper changing station. The easy solution was buying this adorable pad from Skip Hop. It's portable and includes additional compartments to stash diapers, diaper cream, and wipes!
As for the eating department...I swear by the food pouches, particularly the Ella's Kitchen brand. They're great for on-the go! Just squeeze them onto a spoon or right into your child's mouth, like Ethan prefers these days. We also love the Aden + Anais bibs to keep our little guy clean and swear by the Dr. Brown's bottles.
We always have a change of clothes {or 5!} on hand and make sure to include socks and a hat in case it gets cold out. Or for warmer days, some sunscreen to protect that sweet skin.
Last, these days, we can't go anywhere without the trusty pacifier. Ethan prefers the Avent brand...it seems to be the easiest to keep in his mouth. And with cold season, Boogie Wipes are a must! Seriously, these are the best! They're super soft on the face and effective too! Boogies have no chance against these things. Oh and, lots of teethers and toys! Ethan loves chewing on Sophie...she's been a great toy over the last several months. And I have to include the B. Toys keys too...they have metal on them, just like real keys!
So there you have it...our diaper bag is a nutshell! What essentials do you carry in your diaper bag?

Reagan loves the Ella's kitchen food too! Thanks for the suggestion on the bag -- I've realized I need to be "armed" with more stuff when we go out now and hate the look of conventional diaper bags but miss the compartments that my huge leather tote lacks. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove your recommendations! I can't overstate the importance of Sophie! :)
ReplyDeleteWe love our diaper changing station...especially when I have to change him in a store that has one of those drop down tables...ick! I can only imagine what kinds of germs are on there!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 6 months and I started her on solids 3 weeks ago. I gotta check out Ella's kitchen it seems to be very convenient.
ReplyDeleteI have a big diaper bag from OiOi and it always feels so heavy lol! I have diapers, changing station, bib, change of clothes, Sophie, a toy from Lamaze, A&A blanket, spoon, hand santitizer,...
Loving your bag! DO you remember the name of it?? I don't see it anywhere!?!

These are expensive, but you can find them at Target for much less. We loved them!
I have! Have been looking for them at Target...such a great idea!!
DeleteGirl, I've missed this place and *you*! I'm already over the morning sickness thing and I've still got like two weeks. Gah! I guess I better start paying more attention to these posts because I'm *waaaaay* out of practice on diaper bags! Yikes.
ReplyDeleteThat sophie toy is a life safer when I babysit!! Cute bag, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Natasha! I am obsessed with lulu and also use one of their bags for all of Caden's goodies. Last year I was one of the Arizona lulu ambassadors for yoga and got to have my picture up on the store wall. You can see a photo in the about me section on my blog in case you are interested :) Glad to know I am not the only one who has found another use for my gym bag. Have a great day!

We have used these diapers since our baby was a Newborn. With 4 little nieces, we knew which brand we wanted and which type. In the family's "mom's circle" it was just well known to go with honest diapers. During our baby shower, one of the gift baskets had a pack of expensive diapers and sure enough, we had 2 blow-outs/leak-throughs in the short amount of time we used them.

I'm going to have to try using one of my Lulu bags as a diaper bag one of these days! Love how wide yours is! K just turned 1 and I'm amazed at how much MORE I seem to keep packing in the bag these days! So so heavy! I have to keep a bunch of clean spoons, snacks, and teething toys. Sophie and the B. keys are in rotation. We always have our Honest Co. sunscreen. An extra pair of socks and shoes now too.
