Style and Spring

I feel very honored that I was nominated by two of my favorite bloggy besties last week.

Elizabeth of The Mustard Ceiling and Dana of Southern Inspired passed the Stylish Blogger Award along to me and it totally made my day!  Please check out their blogs and see exactly why I am love these two!  You can check out my 7 Things About Me here!

I'd love to pass this award along to some newer bloggers that definitely have great style:

Tiffany at Savor Home

Early last week, Lauren over at Tickled. had me guest post while she was out of town {lucky duck!} so I thought I would share my post now...just to add a little spring in your step.

Nothing says spring to me like bright and sunny daffodils!  They epitomize the season and I can't get enough of them!

I'm a huge fan of pinks and corals in the spring!  It just seems appropriate to bust out the bright colors...though the grays and browns definitely help to anchor an outfit.

Ok, really?  I cannot get enough of this cute little chick pops!  They are adorable...too cute to eat!

I cannot wait for the day I can start my garden up again!  I am always envious of those who have gardens all year long...there is something so enchanting about them.

I just die over this design...all the bright yellows and greens...contrasted of course with the stark crisp white furniture.  Totally in love!

What's better than spring flowers and cupcakes?  AND jellybeans!  Done and done...these are sure to be a show-stopper for any spring party this season.

I think this sums up spring nicely...and definitely inspires me to want to garden.

It's finally starting to feel like spring in Tahoe...so I thought this was appropriate!

Thanks again for the nominations and check back shortly for the winner to my first giveaway!

Back to Business

Thank you again to all the loving support and thoughts your sent my way yesterday.  I can't tell you how much it means to me...and it just reminds me why I love this community to much!  AND how I can't wait to dive back into things here in Blogland.

So, last week, I talked about my master bedroom here.  I got a ton of great feedback and I wanted to share some ideas with you all!  First up, I got a great tip to change up the lamps...something like a blue gourd lamp.  I am in love with this idea!

I think the idea of two blue lamps would help tie in the color and add some volume to the room.  Here are some I found online that I am loving!

{via} for $156.91  This one has the right volume...but not too sure about the brass base.

Pottery Barn for $129 each.  I love the look of this milk glass.

{via}  I think I have a MAJOR crush on this one and it's only $59!  Has anyone ordered from Home Decorator's Collection before?  Based on the reviews...these are smaller in person and not very well made though.  HMMMM...may be on the hunt to find something similar.

On to pillows...I think I could speak on this subject for DAYS because there are so many options and you all had some great ideas.  What do you think of these options?

For some reason, I am really drawn to this textured Mongolian lamb pillow from West Elm.  I think the texture would be a nice compliment without having to compete with the other patterns.  Of course...I don't really know how gray works into the whole design scheme!

But I suppose, if were going to do gray, this nautical pillow from Esty might tie in nicely.  We kind of have a beach theme going in the mater bathroom already...last seen here.

And if I'm bold enough...maybe I can work in another pattern.  What do you think of this Etsy ikat pattern?

And while we're on the subject of the coastal chic...what are your thoughts on vintage prints like these from Etsy?  Too much?  I kind of like the darker color of the coral.

The last tip I got that I really liked, was the to paint the walls a darker brown.

This walls via Decor Pad are more green, but I think the darker color helps to set off the white trim and adds a lot of interest.  It's really high time we start painting these walls anyway!

Alright people!  Lots to think about...I'm antsy to get started.

{Last chance to enter my giveaway this week!  Winner will be announced at noon (pacific time) on Thursday!}

Shell of who I used to be...

I want to apologize for my absence the last couple of days.  I've had a recent loss in my family and my mom just underwent a 15 hour surgery on her lower back.  So needless to say, it's been a traumatic last couple days.  But I promise I'll be back to in full-force tomorrow.

In the meantime, I wanted to show you a real-life example of some turtle shells displayed in my good friend's home.  The last time you saw this from me was here.  I mentioned I prefer to have the shells displayed in threes...here is a perfect example:

Also, a special thank you to all the great feedback, advice, and encouragement I got on our master bedroom!  I really appreciate your thoughts and look forward to working them into the design.

A little more Elie!

Ever since I discovered Elie Saab's Spring collection and posted on it here for the Oscar's...I've been noticing more and more celebrities wearing his beautiful dresses.  Just the other day, I was reading US magazine and saw Halle Berry rocking the beautiful red dress.  So I did some digging and found all of these celebrities who heart Elie big time!

Isn't this color stunning on her??  Just the perfect amount of glamour and sass.

Emily Blunt's light peachy pink dress compliments her skin tone just perfectly.

Mila Kunis is a repeat offender...this time in the RTW Spring 2011 line.  For those of you who missed it, she wore this stunner to the Oscar's!

Leighton Meister rocked this icy blue version, also from the RTW Spring collection.

I know this is old hat, but it's still this season's Elie Saab and so demure and pretty on Scarlett Johanson!

{All runway via and celebrity via}

So I think I've said my piece on Eli for the season!  Hope you all have a great weekend!

Master in Process

Hi Lovlies!

Today I wanted to share a space with you that often goes unseen.  I don't really understand it...but it always seems like my master bedroom is the last place I look to decorate--which is kind of silly considering we spend a good amount of time in there!  Maybe it's because when we entertain, our kitchen and living room get seen the most...or when we have weekend guests, we're more concerned with their bedroom and bathroom than our own!  Regardless, it's high-time we put some TLC into the master bedroom--and I feel totally committed to making it happen...with the help of all my lovely readers of course!

You may remember a couple weeks ago, I won my first giveaway!

The lovely Brooke of Velvet & Linen generously gave away two of her husband's giclee's and I was the recipient of this gorgeous piece.  I knew, the second I won it, it had to go over our bed.  Let me tell you a story:  Two years ago, when the hubs and I were registering for our wedding...we decided upon this Pottery Barn bedding.  Hubs loved it and I was thrilled at the thought...something that the guy and I both liked?  Sign me up!  It did not occur to me at the time (I blame my unawareness of blogland) that this would be a very difficult pattern to do much with.  So it's been pretty monochromatic in our room...until now!  We just hung the painting and I am liking how it's coming together.  Without further ado...let me introduce you to the master {well one wall anyway...}:

Ta-dah!  I can't tell you how much the blues in the painting really brought life to this room!  I actually found the pillow when I was down in Walnut Creek at a warehouse sale for $10!  How perfect is the color with the painting?

Here's a close-up!  It's amazing how the colors change depending on the lighting.  There must be hundreds of colors in the giclee alone.

Here's a view of my side of the bed.  The side table is from Ikea...and there is actually another small table, but it's currently serving as our side table in the family room.  Oh and don't mind the speakers in the ceiling...that's just the audio video in my husband...those went in before the drywall...priorities!

The lamps were a pre-marriage purchase from the husband...Target I believe.  However, I think they work for now.  Adds a little bit of masculinity to the room.  His side table is from Target as well and is quite a bit smaller than the other table...so he has his political books to help balance out the height lamps.

To add depth...I have a couple pillows between the shams.  Maybe one day I'll bring for some blue Euro shams?  That could be a fun way to help tie the colors together...no?

Here's one more head on look.  I'm thinking that down the road...I should include some paintings on either side of the giclee..smaller ones to help balance things out.  Thoughts?
Soon, I plan to post some inspiration for things that I can add to this particular space to add some great detail and dimension.  I would LOVE to hear your ideas, so please let me know!

Do You Turtle?

I've been to a couple flea markets in my day...and I've seen a good amount of different and eclectic things, but the one that always stands out to me is the elusive {and faux I might add} turtle shell!  I've seen them as a design element in a house or two, and I have to say, I think they're pretty cool!  Different-yes, but super cool!

 All images above and below {via}

Before anyone jumps the gun here, I just want to make it clear that I, in no way, accept or condone the harming of any animals, let alone turtles!  But to be able to display the resin version in your home  to admire their beauty, seems like a great way to celebrate them.  If you must have an authentic shell, then please do your research and find a reliable source to purchase a naturally shed shell.  This is a humane practice and allows the digntity and respect of these animals to stay in tact.

I think the architecture of the shell is just so beautiful and unique.  Kelly Wreastler designed this restaurant at The Tides la Marea in order to display them.

Something a little more subdued...

I've also seen them on stands...which looks great on a bookshelf or even on a side table, perhaps behind the sofa?

I am a fan of hanging 3 of them in a row, as opposed to one singular one.  However, this space is truly lovely and eclectic.

Ballard Designs had these resin turtle shells about a year ago....unfortunately, they are no longer available.  I've not seen this design element go viral...so it's definitely a special treasure to find one.

Let me know...what do you think?  Would you ever consider display turtle shells in your home?  I think if I lived by the beach, I would definitely be interested.

L is for lululemon!

Hi Friends!  How was everyone's weekend?  Good I hope!

We escaped to Walnut Creek for the weekend for our friend's birthday and of course, some much-needed shopping!  :)  Got some fun stuff for the home and kitchen, but I was very excited to finally take the plunge and purchase my very first lululemon hoodie!

Some of you may know that I've been contemplating lululemon for awhile...in fact, the first time I went into a store, hubby ended up leaving with a new pair of pants and I left empty-handed!  I don't know if it was the sticker shock that scared me away or just being overwhelmed with all the options!  But so many of my friends absolutely love their stuff and my husband can't stop talking about it...so I figured it was time!  PLUS...we're getting a TON of snow this week (what gives Spring?) so I know I'll get a lot of great use out of it.

After tons of browsing around, I decided on the Scuba Hoodie...but not just any Scuba Hoodie...I went for the special edition Scuba Hoodie "Travel Bag" version!  It's super thick and the color is really stunning in person!  I also love the little details...the thumbholes to keep my hands warm, the cap on the zipper...so it doesn't rub against my skin, and the different colored lining.

I know it seems like a silly thing, but I think it's kind of neat to have something like this...especially for when we travel!  And the lululemon logo looks really neat too!  :)

This hoodie runs for $108--which is a tad more expensive than the regular hoodie at $98, but again, it's a really thick, great quality sweater and just great for this cold weather!  I might consider buying a lighter version for the summer.

Of course, hubby couldn't leave empty-handed...

soooo I got him some "Game On" boxer briefs...in camo color!  Haha!! He's such a lululemon snob now!  :)

So tell me...what do you think of lululemon?  Worth the investment?  Any great pieces you love and would recommend? I would love to hear!
